For years STARS main repeater was a VHF and UHF system located in Colden, NY. This provided good coverage but its footprint weakened as toward the south and the east. The original WB2ELW Colden repeater was decomissioned in 2019 and the new VHF repeater was installed. Just prior to this STARS finished the new tower installation project and installed a UHF repeater system in Hamburg at the Club station location. This repeater serves the southtowns and fills in the diminished footprint toward the east and serves the normally VHF shadowed area in the Hamburg area.
The STAR-link repeater systems links these two repeaters together.
The UHF repeater WB2ELW/R2 which has a frequency of 442.325+5.0 Mhz and a PL tone of 88.5 Hz located in Hamburg, NY is crosslinked with the VHF repeater WB2ELW/R with a frequency of 147.090+0.600 MHz and PL tone of 107.2 Hz located in Colden, NY. The STAR-link system provides a tremendous radio covarage area in western NY.
